Recently our planet lost the prophetic comedy of Richard Pryor when his physical body died. Pryor’s comedy evolved from a Cosby-like middle America humor to a ribald, profanity laced light shining on our nation’s obscenities of racism, and poverty. Pryor was a torn man whose childhood abuse and anger ravaged his personal being even as he embodied the dignity of the black and common person with eternal transformational clarity. In the season of MLK and civil rights victories we honor this “Imperfect Prophet.”
